Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 14, 2026
Cookt is made by Kinori Labs. This policy explains what data Cookt collects, why we collect it, and what control you have over it. The short version: we collect what the app needs to work, we show no ads, and we never sell your data.
What we collect
Account information
You sign in to Cookt with your phone number. We use it to create and secure your account and to sign you back in. The one-time sign-in code is sent by Twilio, which receives your phone number only to deliver that text message. We do not use your phone number for marketing and we do not share it with advertisers.
Your recipes and preferences
Recipes you save and your meal plan are stored with your account, on servers run by Kinori Labs, so they stay in sync and are there when you come back. Your books, pantry, shopping list, and preferences such as allergies and dietary restrictions are kept on your phone. Allergy and dietary preferences are used only to shape what the app suggests to you, including in the AI features described below.
AI features, photos and links
Some features use AI from Google (Gemini), with OpenAI as a backup when Google is unavailable. Before you first use Ask Cookt, Snap a dish, Adjust with AI, or an AI photo for a recipe you write, the app asks your permission to send data to these providers. What is sent, and only when you use the feature:
- Ask Cookt: your message, your pantry, the titles and main ingredients of your saved recipes, and your allergies and dietary preferences.
- Snap a dish: the photo you take or choose, and your allergies and dietary preferences.
- Adjust with AI: the recipe and the change you ask for, and your allergies and dietary preferences.
- AI photo for a recipe you write: the recipe's title and cuisine.
- Importing a link: the link, and the page or video it points to, so the recipe can be read out of it.
These providers process the content only to return a result to you. We do not send your phone number or account details with it.
Your public profile and posts
If you choose to share, your profile name, handle, photo and bio, and the recipes, photos, comments, likes and follows you post are visible to other people in Cookt and on Cookt's web share pages. Your email address, phone number, private recipes, allergies and preferences are never shown. Text and photos you post are checked for harmful content by an automated moderation service (OpenAI); photos are re-encoded and their location data is removed before anyone sees them. If you turn on notifications, we store a device token to tell you about new likes, comments and follows.
Crash diagnostics
If the app crashes or misbehaves, we collect crash reports and basic device information through Sentry, a crash reporting service. This helps us find and fix bugs. Crash data is not used for advertising.
Subscriptions and payments
Cookt Pro is billed by Apple on iPhone; Android is free for now. Apple handles the payment; we never see your card number or billing details. RevenueCat, our subscription service, receives your purchase receipts from Apple along with your Cookt account identifier, and tells the app which features to unlock.
What we do not do
- We show no ads, so there is no ad tracking in Cookt.
- We do not sell your data. Not to anyone, not in any form.
- We do not read your recipes for any purpose other than running the app.
Data retention and deletion
Your data stays in your account for as long as you keep it. You can delete your account and everything in it at any time:
- In the app: go to Profile > Delete account.
- By email: write to [email protected] from any address and include the phone number on the account.
Deleting your account removes your recipes, meal plans, preferences, and account information from our systems, along with your public profile, posts, photos, comments, likes and follows.
Security
Your data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored with access controls in place. No system is perfectly secure, but we treat your kitchen like our own.
Children
Cookt is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update this page and the effective date above. Material changes will be flagged in the app.
